Queer artist tells stories of Tenderloin residents [Bay Area Reporter]

Dozens of vividly colored posters are now viewable in Muni bus shelters on Market Street between the Embarcadero and Eighth Street as part of the San Francisco Arts Commission's first Market Street Poster Series of the year. Collectively titled "On Whose Shoulders," these posters, unveiled last month, were created by artist Lukaza Branfman-Verissimo to tell the stories of communities impacted by change along Market Street. CounterPulse launches new window displays of work by Tenderloin artists [Hoodline]

Local theater company CounterPulse has been a strong supporter of Tenderloin artists, letting neighbors borrow their work for free through an art lending library. Now, the group is expanding into exhibiting artists' work, with new displays in the windows of 350 Jones St. showcasing pieces created by people in the neighborhood. (The building itself is home to the Homeless Storage Facility, a nonprofit that provides space for houseless neighbors to store their clothes and other non-perishable items.) Read more via Hoodline here.

New art lending library loans works to Tenderloin neighbors for free [Tenderloin]

A new free art lending library will be available to Tenderloin residents, courtesy of local theater CounterPulse. Launching September 4, the Tenderloin Art Lending Library (TALL) is a queer-artist-run project that will lend artwork to neighbors free of charge for up to one month, according to Rick Darnell, CounterPulse’s community arts manager. 'Painting provides canvas for art of recovery' an article & video feature with our neighbor Tim Snyder [SF Chronicle]

Tim Snyder is always busy creating. He walks around San Francisco wearing psychedelic shirts that he’s sewn together and bright accessories that he’s repurposed from vintage finds.

But what people don’t know is that Snyder hasn’t always been a ray of light. After losing his husband, Paul, to AIDS, Snyder went through a dark time in his life. He fell into drugs and alcohol throughout most of the 1990s and early 2000s and struggled to fill the void of his loss. It wasn’t until deciding that he “no longer wanted to live in the trauma” did Snyder get help. Read the full article and watch the video segment on SF Chronicle
