Sting, starring in THE LAST SHIP
GOLDEN GATE THEATRE
1 Taylor Street
FEB. 20 – MAR. 22, 2020
Rock superstar Sting stars in THE LAST SHIP, an epic tale of community, hope and a great act of collective defiance. When a sailor named Gideon Fletcher returns home after seventeen years at sea, tensions between past and future flare in both his family and his town. The local shipyard, around which Wallsend has always revolved, is closing and no-one knows what will come next, only that a half-built ship towers over the terraces. With the engine fired and pistons in motion, picket lines are drawn as foreman Jackie (Sting) and his wife Peggy fight to hold their community together in the face of the gathering storm. With an outstanding score from multiple Grammy Award winner Sting, this new musical is personal, political and passionate.
High Fantasy Memory Index
Date: February 4, 6-9pm
Location: Tenderloin Museum, 398 Eddy St
Facilitated by performer Silk Worm and artist Raphael Villet, High Fantasy Memory Index is a public celebration and archive of photographs, videos and artworks made about High Fantasy, a drag performance and party that ran every Tuesday at Aunt Charlie’s Lounge from 2010 to 2018. This archive, which marks the end of the Tenderloin Museum’s broader series of programs about Aunt Charlie’s, also kicks off the museum’s creation of their highly anticipated book, Aunt Charlie’s: San Francisco’s Working Class Drag Bar.
As an open submission archive, this civic project invites viewers to submit their work—and aims to show High Fantasy from the many perspectives of its performers, hosts, bartenders, DJs, regulars, and guests. After the reception, attendees are also invited to attend Angels, Aunt Charlie’s Lounge’s new Tuesday night party.
Want to submit your work about High Fantasy to TLM? Email us at info@tenderloinmuseum.org.

Music Box Orchestra and The Traveling Mural
Date: February 7, 3-5pm
Location: CounterPulse, 80 Turk St.
Join us for a double-billed Block Fest party!
Get your paint on with Dawn Leigh’s Black Hawk Traveling Mural Project and join the fun of finishing the Traveling Murals that will travel around San Francisco. Connect with the community through art making, and admire the murals that will be celebrated throughout the city. This project draws from Tenderloin’s history to celebrate the legendary Black Hawk Night Club, a jazz venue that was one of the only places where mixed race audiences could sit together, countering the nationwide racial segregation of the time.
Meanwhile, stop by to create your own melodies with Rick Darnell’s Music Box Orchestra! Stop by to create your own melodies with hand cranked music boxes. We will record and playback our tunes by punching holes in paper strips, and play them in the music box- just like an old time player piano. Have fun creating small “orchestra” compositions and unique music! At the end, we will document our lovely projects share them with friends and family on social media.
Be sure to be there at 4:30 for Ms. Rita Whittaker’s (Tenderloin chanteuse) performance of “I will Survive!”

DIVA or Die Burlesque
EXIT Theatre (Café) 156 Eddy Street
February 15 8:30PM
The history of burlesque is the history of parody and the history of pressing boundaries. Drawing from the rich and varied images of burlesque over the ages, The DIVA or Die Burlesque cabaret takes the audience on a voyeuristic journey allowing them a sensuous peek at the bold women and times of burlesque. First introduced at the 2012 DIVAfest, Red Velvet, now assisted by Dola Belles, has continued to bring today’s look at burlesque in monthly DIVA or Die reviews, offering women the opportunity to claim their power and strut their stuff in an art form that goes back to the Greeks. Red Velvet is a prolific choreographer and performs throughout the SF Bay Area, teaches cancan and burlesque classes and is the lead choreographer, costume designer, and DIVA for the new Can-Can performance group, The Velvettes.Dola Belles is new to the name, but not to the stage. She has been spreading her sparkle across the SF Bay Area since 2015. The my little pony that will fucking cut you, she is the Fandom Fatale.
