The Tenderloin Community Benefit District’s core purpose is to lead the evolution of the Tenderloin into a vibrant community
The Tenderloin welcomes people of all ages, races, religions, genders, sexual orientations, experiences, and circumstances. When we say “neighbors,” we are referring to our neighbors including people experiencing homelessness. We believe our neighbors deserve pathways and opportunities to thrive.
We are rooted in our Love for the Tenderloin. We honor, celebrate, and champion its history, culture, and people. We strive always to represent a collective voice for its diverse communities. The greatest expression of our work is to foster connection among our neighbors.
We approach our work with uncompromising respect for all with a lens of empathy and compassion. Our programs, advocacy, and partnerships seek equitable outcomes within and for the neighborhood.
We have a deep responsibility to the community. Our organization represents an investment on behalf of Tenderloin property owners for the benefit of everyone. This is our foundation and the most critical element of our decision-making and programs. We work to be transparent, accessible, and accountable.
We hold courage as an inspiration, aspiration, and action. It underscores our choice to lead and work together. We are humbled and driven by daily acts of hope, determination, and beauty displayed in the Tenderloin.
Our Core Framework, which is comprised of three principle focus areas guide the TLCBD’s work to positively impact the neighborhood.
Having safe, clean, welcoming places for the community to connect is essential to the health of a neighborhood.
An important element of a healthy neighborhood is Neighborhood Pride. The way residents and businesses think and talk about their neighborhood plays a major role in determining how they use the neighborhood.
A healthy neighborhood is one where opportunity and potential employment for the community exists and thrives.
ABOUT THE TLCBD
The Tenderloin Community Benefit District (TLCBD) works relentlessly to provide a clean and safe environment. Strong community partnerships and supportive collaboration with city agencies will create positive change in the Tenderloin neighborhood. Organization services are focused on implementing neighborhood improvements around the physical environment, economic development, and neighborhood pride.
Starting in 2005 a non-profit 501c3 was established collaboratively by community leaders and property owners. The city and neighborhood adopted the TLCBD management plan to work towards a mission of neighborhood improvement for all within the district boundaries.
A Board of Directors, made up of Tenderloin property owners, residents, business owners and other stakeholders oversees the management of the TLCBD. The full-time management team leads the day-to-day operations of TLCBD initiatives and programs including: maintenance and safe passage of our streets, coordination with City agencies, interaction with our valued residents, and business support services. Our Clean Team also ensures a positive experience for visitors and residents.
WHAT IS A CBD?
A Community Benefit District (CBD) is a formally recognized non-profit organization dedicated to improving the quality of life in a defined region. CBDs vary in the supplemental services they provide, such as public safety, maintenance, marketing, and capital improvements. The efforts are funded by a special assessment paid by the property owners in the district. A CBD is a public/private partnership, which allows governing bodies and property/business owners to unite in a collective effort for the maintenance, development, and promotion of their commercial district.
