Title: Safe Passage Corner Captain
Employment Status: Part-Time — 4-19 Hrs/week; No Benefits
Compensation: $21.17/Hr
Reports to: Program Director/Manager


The Corner Captain is a part-time hourly position, reporting directly to the Safe Passage Program Managers. This individual(s) will serve as a visible safety presence at both designated priority intersections as well as along a safe corridor during morning and/or afternoon school commute hours, approx. 8am-10a and 2p-4p (Wednesdays, 1pm-3pm) additional shifts may apply on a non recurring basis. As a safety presence, the Corner Captain(s) will monitor the safety environment and practice positive engagement with all people, assist with safe street crossings, and in general promote safe behavior.


Responsibilities

  • Serve as a ‘visible safety presence’ during Safe Passage shifts, monitoring the safety environment and assisting with safe street crossings
  • Model Safe Passage safety knowledge & skills at all times
  • Utilize & maintain safety equipment properly
  • Report/record shift data
  • Communicate clearly/effectively and in a positive manner with other TLCBD staff and with the public
  • Ability to work successfully as a Safe Passage ‘team member’ and to partner with Safe Passage volunteers on an ongoing basis
  • Other duties as assigned by Manager & Assistant Manager

Qualifications

  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • Must have good judgment and ability to maintain emotional control in stressful situations
  • Required to take a background check and fingerprinting
  • Able to conduct self in a professional manner that projects a positive safety presence
  • Must be able to effectively communicate Safety Codes, including the writing of incident reports or summaries (forms provided in multiple languages)
  • Must sign a release of liability waiver which also releases their children if they are present
  • Able to be on foot for up to an hour
  • Fluency in English required; skill in Spanish, Cantonese, or Arabic is highly desirable
  • Understanding of the TLCBD neighborhood, its complexities, diversity, and many strengths
  • Ability to work effectively and interact professionally with a diverse, multicultural, multilingual, and interdisciplinary team/community population

Title: Park Captain
Reports to: Director of Parks & Stewardship
P/T – F/T Position: 30-40 hours/week
Compensation: $24.34/hour w/full range of benefits


TLCBD Park Captain will be responsible for fostering clean, safe, and inviting parks in the Tenderloin by having a physical presence at the parks and positively engaging with park users and neighbors.


Responsibilities

  • Positively engage with park users and nearby neighbors to create meaningful connections that foster a safe and inviting environment
  • Deescalate situations when needed
  • Carry out light litter pickup as needed to foster a clean environment
  • Staff an outreach table that has materials to connect those experiencing homelessness or mental health crises to organizations that can assist with housing, mental health services, etc
  • Assist with set-up and storage of equipment for programming activities as needed
  • Fill out a daily shift report with data of number of park users and other metrics
  • Communicate daily with other Park Captains, Park Network Operations Manager, and Park’s partners to accomplish program goals
  • Carry out daily job duties in accordance with TLCBD values

Qualifications

  • Ability to work effectively and interact professionally with a diverse, multicultural, and interdisciplinary team and population
  • Has undergone full base training which is attained at entry level thorough Safe Passage
  • Compassionate and empathetic communication approach
  • Intimate knowledge of the Tenderloin neighborhood, either as a resident or professional (highly-preferred)
  • Multilingual (highly-preferred)
  • Experience with de-escalation skills or willingness to learn
  • Willingness to learn TLCBD Safe Passage policies and practices
  • Ability to work outdoors for long periods of any time in all weather
  • Must be willing to commit to at least 1 of the 2 weekend days per week.
  • Ability to stand for long periods of time, lift 50 lbs

Title: Park Captain Coordinator
Employment Status: F/T 40 hours per week with full-range of benefits
Compensation: $28.40/per hour
Reports to:  Manager of Parks & Youth Voice


The TLCBD Park Captain Coordinator will be responsible for fostering a clean, safe, and inviting network of three parks in the Tenderloin: Turk-Hyde Mini Park, Sgt. Macaulay Park, and Boeddeker Park and other open spaces in the neighborhood. This position will support our Manager of Parks & Youth Voice and the Director of Parks in fostering a stable 7-day-a-week Park Captain stewardship program, including on-site supervising, supporting parks programming and operations, and directly engaging with community members. The Park Captain Program is a 365/day per year operation and the Park Captain Coordinator will be expected to be available during holidays and weekends as needed.


Responsibilities

  • Develop a culture of safety at each park in the Park Network
  • Support the Director of Parks and Manager of Parks & Youth Voice with Park Captain and Park Captain Leads performance analysis and coaching, counseling of staff and helping to resolve staff issues
  • Coordinate lunch breaks for Park Captains, and cover their lunch breaks as needed
  • During specific windows of time, act as the point of contact for Park Captain call-outs, administrative needs, operational and organizational questions. Park Captains will be instructed to contact you during these times and you will be responsible for coordinating coverage in the case of call outs.
  • Ensure that staff understands their duties or delegated tasks
  • Monitor staff productivity and provide constructive feedback and coaching
  • Pass on information from upper management to employees and vice versa
  • Positively engage with park users and nearby neighbors to create meaningful connections that foster a safe and inviting environment
  • Greet park visitors and develop positive community relationships
  • De-escalate situations when needed utilizing TLCBD Park Captain training approach
  • Willingness to carry out light litter pickup and other daily cleaning activities to foster a clean environment
  • Willingness to support TLCBD-led activities such as arts and crafts and other youth activities by maintaining supplies and equipment and bringing them out for activities

  • Ability to roam park to park (as needed) and support park locations to ensure efficiency.

Title: Clean Operations II
Temporary: 40 hours / non-exempt / 6 month position
Compensation: $19.00/hour w/full range of benefits (potential for $20/hour after 3 months)
Reports to: Manager of Clean Operations


Our Cleaning Operations II is a new workforce development position tailored specifically for San Francisco residents. This individual plays an integral part in our overall clean operations team in a high-visibility, public-facing role that interacts with residents, city agencies, media, and guests of the city on a daily basis. This team member works solo or in tandem with other team members on assigned neighborhood blocks during assigned times and must wear a specific uniform and utilize company issued personal protective equipment (PPE) and/or provided equipment at all times.

This position will require you to participate in specific workforce development training over the course of 6 months. After 6 months, this team member is expected to progress into permanent work within a TLCBD program, partner programs, or another external permanent position. The Clean Team is a core team for the TLCBD and must be held to high standards.


Primary responsibilities include:

  • Manual litter and debris collection from sidewalks, street gutters, and alleys using a rolling trash receptacle and supplies
  • Use and keep all tools and equipment clean
  • Be aware of proximity of cleaning equipment to the general public and co-workers
  • Wear PPE
  • Observe and report unwanted behaviors, unsafe conditions, and criminal activity on a daily basis
  • Provide hospitality and customer service by acknowledging pedestrians, providing directions or information when requested
  • Maintain a positive attitude and hold standards of expected professional behavior.

Required Skills/Experience:

  • Must be a San Francisco resident
  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • Must have updated Hep A and Hep B vaccinations, as well as TDAP
  • Must be able to work outdoors
  • Must have the physical capacity to walk or traverse continuously through the district during an eight hour shift
  • Must be able to lift 30 pounds
  • Must be able to work in all types of weather conditions
  • Must be able to work 40 hours/week inclusive of weekends and/or holidays

Title: Director of People & Culture
Employment Status: Full time/exempt
Compensation: $100,000-$120,000
Reports to: Executive Director


The Director of People and Culture (DPC) will be responsible for leading all aspects of Human Resources including recruiting/retention, benefits, hiring/onboarding, performance management, payroll and general compliance, learning and development, contract coordination, emergency resilience planning, teambuilding and wellness, values/norms alignment, and all other HR strategy and operations leadership.

The DPC will be an organization leader for building a culture of safety within the organization through equitable hiring, onboarding, and learning & development practices as well as managing compliance and training. The DPC will also guide new employees through the benefits and compensation process while complying with all local, state, and federal regulations for HR. The ideal candidate will be organized, experienced, and dedicated to strengthening the workforce of TLCBD to best serve the Tenderloin in a sustainable manner. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in nonprofit leadership and people management, compliance, finance and administration, with experience and expertise in leading diverse teams while centering equity and inclusion.

Reporting to the Executive Director, you will be part of a dynamic team supporting programs for the social good of the Tenderloin community. This candidate will play a critical role in partnering with the team across Policy & Advocacy, Operations, and Development in strategic decision-making and operations as TLCBD continues to enhance its quality programming and build capacity. This is a tremendous opportunity for a people and culture leader to maximize and strengthen the internal capacity of a well-respected, high-impact organization, and to contribute to an established nonprofit that is uplifting the neighborhood and transforming lives in the Tenderloin District of downtown San Francisco. Primary responsibilities include:

  • Lead in ensuring diversity, equity and inclusion, anti-racism, employee wellbeing, promoting a culture of health, safety, positive communication and equity.
  • Recruits and assists in the interview process of potential applicants on experience, skills, and     education.
  • Contacts applicants’ references and performs background checks required by the organization.
  • Organizes and manages new employee orientations and training programs, the sending of offer/decline letters, collects onboarding paperwork (w-4s, health insurance packet, fingerprinting, etc.) and leads onboarding/offboarding of new/terminated staff.
  • Updates job requirements/descriptions when needed and manages annual performance evaluation processes, PIPs and promotions.
  • Explains and provides information on employee benefits, programs, and education (managing 410k, health benefits and employee questions, flex spending, etc.).
  • Advises on benefit needs/evaluates benefit contract bids, including worker’s compensation, unemployment, etc.
  • Advances values and norms within the organization, ensuring staff members understand and embody what TLCBD’s strives to be.
  • Coordinates and manages the payroll process, including input and management of payroll system and vendor service (including any garnishments or overtime), also oversees PTO tracking & reconciliation, monitoring scheduling/overtime, processing/management of timesheets, etc.
  • Ensures HR department policies and processes are consistent and streamlined. Responsible for updating the Employee Handbook and creating emergency response/disaster resiliency procedures
  • Commitment to learning & professional development programs that maximize individual professional growth and organization goals including best practices in human resources activities and CA employment and HR laws and regulations.
  • Lead organizer of team building, organizational culture, and fun events & gatherings on a regular basis
  • Work closely and transparently with all external partners including third-party vendors and consultants.
  • Covers all legal compliance for human resource federal and state requirements.
  • Maintains employee records and paperwork.
  • Represents TLCBD in the community and at recruiting events.
  • Answers employee questions and addresses employee concerns with the organization including employee safety, welfare, wellness and health

Required Skills/Experience:

  • HR applicants require a bachelor’s degree in human resources, business, or a related field, and/or 5+ years of experience in a people management position.
  • Possesses superb written and spoken communication skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal relationship building and employee coaching skills.
  • Excellent computer skills, Excel, and demonstrated skills in database management and record-keeping.
  • Organized and efficient in daily tasks.
  • Specialized training in employee relations, coaching/counseling/mentoring, and/or DEI preferred.
  • General knowledge of employment best practices.
  • Technologically proficient with experience in organizing employee files, reports, and performance plans.
  • Knowledge of basic accounting, such as budget and HR/Payroll systems and senior leadership in the roll-out of more robust DEI policies and practices.

Title: Custodial Specialist Lead
Part-Time:  P/T 25 hours a week with full benefits
Compensation: $23 / $24 after 90 day introductory period
Reports to: Director of Operations


The Custodial Specialist Lead will help support Custodial Services for the Tenderloin Community Benefit District under the direction of the Director of Operations. This position will supervise a team of Custodial Specialists and participate in custodial services for various building facilities as well as some individual residential units. This individual will participate in training on proper equipment use and safety procedures. Hours are set Monday-Friday, 3:30pm-8:30pm, but this position must also be available to work weekends and select holidays.

Primary responsibilities include:

  • Supervise and train a small team of Custodial Specialists
  • Drive between physical locations for pick up and drop offs of equipment and supplies
  • Minor administrative and record keeping responsibilities
  • Trash and recycling removal
  • Wiping down and sanitizing work surfaces
  • Cleaning, sanitizing and restocking restroom facilities
  • Sweeping, mopping, polishing and vacuuming floors
  • Organizing the custodial units and storage of all supplies and equipment
  • Completing minor repairs, like unclogging toilets, changing light bulbs
  • Notify Director of Operations when major repairs are needed
  • Securing facilities when completing cleaning rotation doors at the end of shift
  • Following safety rules and precautions
  • Adheres to company policies and procedures and ensure all Custodial Specialists do as well

Equipment & PPE:

  • Wears appropriate PPE and uniform
  • Uses common cleaning tools, equipment, and chemicals
  • Ability to drive a company truck around various city locations to assist with equipment and supplies

Required Skills/Experience:

  • Must have valid driver’s license with clean driving record
  • Supervisory experience is preferred
  • Custodial and / or cleaning experience is required
  • Follows written and verbal instructions
  • Works well independently and/or in a team and has strong time management skills
  • Handles the physical demands of the job, including standing, walking, bending, climbing and lifting up to 50 lbs

  • Notifying Supervisor when major repairs are needed
  • Securing facilities when completing cleaning rotation doors at the end of shift
  • Following safety rules and precautions
  • Adheres to all company policies and procedures.

Equipment & PPE:

  • Wears appropriate PPE and uniform
  • Uses common cleaning tools, equipment, and chemicals

Required Skills/Experience:

  • Custodial and / or cleaning experience is preferred
  • Follows written and verbal instructions
  • Works well independently and/or in a team and has strong time management skills
  • Handles the physical demands of the job, including standing, walking, bending, climbing and lifting up to 50 lbs
