HAPPY HOLIDAYS FROM TLCBD
Dear Tenderloin Property Owners and Community Members,
As we wrap up another incredible year, the Tenderloin Community Benefit District (TLCBD) and our Board of Directors want to extend our heartfelt gratitude to you for your support and commitment to our shared vision. The Tenderloin is a neighborhood that embodies resilience and potential, and this past year we’ve seen remarkable progress in building a brighter future together. From expanding our Clean Team through a $2 million investment from the Department of Public Works to securing a five-year, $2 million grant for our Youth Voice program, we’ve been able to create meaningful opportunities that uplift our entire community.
Guided by our Strategic Plan, we have focused our efforts on two key pillars: Policy & Voice and Operations & Stewardship. Through these initiatives, we’ve supported programs like Youth Voice and Business Voice, empowering leadership and advocacy, while also enhancing our public spaces through projects like Safe Passage and Parks programs. This year, we partnered with the Office of Economic & Workforce Development to host 334 events and activations, drawing over 12,000 attendees and investing $60,000 into local businesses. These moments of connection and celebration remind us of the incredible strength and creativity that define our neighborhood.
As we look ahead to 2025, we remain committed to having a Tenderloin neighborhood where every youth, resident, business, and property owner can thrive. Thank you for your belief in the power of community-led change. Wishing you and your loved ones happy holidays and a joyous New Year filled with hope, health, and safety.
Warm regards,
Kate Robinson
Executive Director, TLCBD
CELEBRATING THE SUCCESS OF TLCBD’s FIRST INTERNSHIP COHORT
We are proud to announce our first Cohort of 9 interns is nearly finished. By December 20th , these interns would have worked 240 hours over the past twelve weeks, covering an array of information and providing services within our two pathways: Policy & Voice or Work Readiness. The interns proved to be reliable and thoughtful in their engagement; they showed leadership and resilience, on behalf of TLCBD, we’d like to thank you for joining us in this experience. The lessons learned were valuable on both sides. Congratulations to Cohort 1.
TLCBD (in collaboration with DCYF) provides a paid twelve-week internship for young adults between the ages of 18-24. The internship has two different pathways to choose from: Policy & Voice or Work Readiness. The internship also includes multiple third-party collaborations.
The next Cohort starts January 14th, 2025, and spaces fill quickly. If interested, please email [email protected]g and put “Internship” in the subject line.
ADVOCATING FOR URBAN ALCHEMY’S FUTURE
Urban Alchemy continues to play a critical role in keeping the Tenderloin’s streets safe and clean. Still, they face significant financial challenges due to delayed contracts, which threaten the livelihoods of hundreds of workers and the future of this vital program. During the recent budget hearings where the UA contract was discussed, we emphasized, “Urban Alchemy and Mid-Market Business Foundation have been asked by the City to perform, and they respond repeatedly, with decisive and visible impact.” Thanks to the overwhelming support by our community, funding has been secured through the new year, but much work remains to ensure the program’s long-term survival. As we move into 2025, we will continue to advocate for Urban Alchemy to ensure they have the resources to support the Tenderloin community.
EXPLORE THE NEIGHBORHOOD WITH TLCBD’s VISITTENDERLOIN.COM

This resource serves as a gateway to understanding the neighborhood’s unique character and rich history, encouraging both visitors and residents to explore and engage with all it has to offer. As part of our “The Spirit of SF Starts Here” campaign, funded by the Office of Economic and Workforce Development, VisitTenderloin.com is an initiative to uplift local businesses, foster community pride, and provide a deeper connection to the Tenderloin’s contributions to San Francisco’s cultural fabric.
