BUILDING A SAFER TENDERLOIN
On July 11th, we hosted our quarterly Block Group Convening, bringing together residents, merchants, community leaders, and city officials, including representatives from DPW, TL Police, SF Planning, OEWD, HRC, DEM, and Supervisor Dean Preston. This event supports Block Safety Groups, which aim to create a cleaner, safer, and more connected Tenderloin by fostering community engagement and providing a platform for residents to voice their ideas and concerns. We believe that knowing your neighbors and engaging in genuine community processes are key to building a strong, unified neighborhood, and encourage you to join us at our next convening on Thursday, October 3, 2024, from 12:00 PM to 1:30 PM. LARKIN STREET QUICK-BUILD UNDERWAY
TLCBD leadership is actively supporting the Larkin Street Quick-Build project, which aims to enhance safety and traffic flow between Market Street and Sutter Street. This project will reduce the number of travel lanes and upgrade traffic signals to make pedestrian crossings safer. Additional measures will be implemented to slow down turning vehicles, reducing the risk of accidents. Building on successful improvements in other parts of the Tenderloin, this initiative reflects our commitment to creating safer streets. For questions or recommendations, please email LarkinQB@SFMTA.com.
SUMMER SAFETY TIPS
- Stay Cool: Avoid outdoor activities during extreme heat. Schedule playtime during the cooler parts of the day, like early morning or late afternoon, and encourage children to drink water regularly.
- Eat Right: Ensure a balanced diet with plenty of fruits and vegetables. Summer is a great time for fresh produce at your local farmer’s market!
- Ride Safely: Ensure children wear helmets when riding bikes, scooters, or skateboards to prevent head injuries.
- Stranger Danger: Educate children about the risks of talking to strangers.
