Abdul Al Rammah is the owner of Yemen Kitchen, a father, and a Tenderloin neighbor. He has been in the restaurant industry for over twenty-seven years and runs the only Yemeni restaurant in San Francisco, with a second Tenderloin location in the works. During the Covid19 shelter-in-place order, Yemen Kitchen is offering weekly take out and delivery specials, see below.
Originally from Yemen, where he was a well-known soccer player, Abdul first moved to the United States in the late ‘80s, coaching soccer, supporting his family, and working overtime in restaurants—both in New York and Michigan. With the tenacity of an athlete, Abdul brings that same energy and team spirit to the Tenderloin.
“The neighbors I see on a daily basis are why I love the Tenderloin. There is also a beautiful Yemeni community here. With the Boys and Girls Club and Salvation Army a few blocks from my restaurant and home, this is a resource that both my eleven-year-old son and I enjoy having nearby. My son can play sports and meet up with friends in the park. It’s great to have that all right here.”
Yemen Kitchen serves as a place for neighbors, craving hard-to-find dishes and flavors that remind them of home. And with Abdul’s welcoming nature and reasonable prices, Yemen Kitchen is a spot for all to enjoy. But that’s not all!
A second location is set to open in late summer. While timing depends on conditions stabilizing in the wake of COVID-19, the planning process has been going on for over a year and Abdul will be ready to go.
The new location is at 190 Eddy Street, a space owned by Tenderloin Neighborhood Development Corporation (TNDC). The menu will include an American style breakfast, followed by lunch and dinner. At all times there will be items that start at $6 to ensure that there are affordable options for everyone.
Abdul gives back to the community, showing his appreciation through food. He recently made over forty meals for the Tenderloin Police Station, sponsored by his son’s school, the Cathedral School for Boys. He also worked with the TLCBD to coordinate lunches for the entire Clean Team.
“You don’t have to leave the Tenderloin to find fresh Yemeni food. Everyone is welcome.”
Right now, Yemen Kitchen is also offering takeout and delivery with a special Friday night dinner special. Orders should be placed by 4pm the day before. See below for the menu options.
