In April, we are seeing a number of pedestrian safety initiatives moving from a planning phase and into construction. Watch for signage reflecting the new 20mph speed limit, ‘No Turn on Red’ signage, Golden Gate and Leavenworth Quick Builds, and Pedestrian Scrambles at Tenderloin intersections. Note that while these changes will lead to long-standing positive changes, some of the construction may temporarily impact parking. Be on the lookout!
As always, special thanks to the community members who have been rallying for more pedestrian-safety streets, the TL Traffic Safety Task Force, SFMTA, Matt Haney, TNDC, CCSRO Collaborative, Walk SF, SF Bike Coalition, Tenderloin People’s Congress, and Boys & Girls Club.

Quick Builds
Look for Quick Builds coming in at Golden Gate (from Polk to Market) and Leavenworth (from McAllister to Post). Quick builds are safety designs which can be implemented quickly and meant to benefit pedestrians and bike riders.

Pedestrian Scrambles
New pedestrian scrambles are installed and activated at Ellis & Jones, Eddy & Mason, Turk & Jones. A pedestrian scramble means that all cars will stop at the same time, allowing pedestrians to cross an intersection in every direction, including diagonally, at the same time.
