From the moment TLCBD communications staff discussed regularly nominating heroes, Safe Passage Corner Captains put forth Officer Eric Robinson as a ‘must recognize’. We’ve learned Robinson has been named officer of the year for Tenderloin Station, and we thought it prudent to feature him for the month of December.
Robinson started his career in the armed services and then became a police officer in Rohnert Park before transferring to Oakland Police Department where he retired. But the job lured him back and he came to Tenderloin where he works with Officer Ha in community-based policing roles.
Everyday Robinson works, he makes it a point to travel the Safe Passage Route just before and during the shift. You‘ve likely seen him peddling along Turk Street. As an active participant in the Safe Passage Program, he brings our resident Corner Captains a sense of camaraderie, confidence, and calm, allowing them to do their job at the highest level. Having a beat officer to know by name, and to be able to share experience with makes a tremendous difference on the safety of our communities.
It’s like Corner Captain ‘King’ John says, “Robinson is my dude, he don’t bother nobody. Everybody respects him.” We are a neighborhood rich in authenticity, and it’s the authenticity and sincerity with which Robinson works with every community member he engages that brings that calm to corners just before hundred of students pass along the route.
Robinson brings the same care and sincerity to Boeddeker park. To say he is a welcome presence there is an understatement. Robinson many times has been the very person to open the gates and welcome families in.
Outside of work, Robinson is dedicated to his family making time to be at their many sporting activities.
Thank you for being a hero to the Safe Passage Program, and the Tenderloin neighborhood Robinson!

Expect TLCBD to honor neighborhood heroes representative across the entire spectrum of our diverse Tenderloin, including residents, merchants, workers and property owners.
