On April 26th, Tenderloin Community Benefit District welcomed planners, engineers, and other community partners to kick off SFMTA’s Safer Taylor Street Project. Participants left TLCBD headquarters for a walking survey of Taylor Street, from Market to Sutter.
About SFMTA’s Safer Taylor Street Project:
The Safer Taylor Street Project is a critical component of San Francisco’s Vision Zero goal to eliminate all traffic deaths by year 2024. This initiative aims to tame streets with higher collision rates to prevent pedestrian related incidents. Starting this spring, the SFMTA will be collaborating with Taylor Street residents, businesses, community and advocacy groups to develop a new vision for Taylor Street between Market and Sutter streets that improves safety for all users.
The Tenderloin Community Benefit District through its Safe Passage Program in collaboration with Walk SF will be assisting SFMTA and other project partners in developing a robust community outreach program to ensure a community driven design. Beginning in mid-May, we’ll be leading a series of community outreach events, with presentations to provide general information and gather community input from the diverse groups that use Taylor Street on a regular basis. In June, we will convene more in depth workshops open to anyone who is interested. In addition, our Safe Passage Corner Captains will be collecting data on Taylor Street usage. This is a truly incredible opportunity to shape the future of Taylor Street and to ensure it is a safer, more livable street for all.
Stay tuned to the Tenderloin Talk newsletter, Twitter and Facebook for project updates and to find out about upcoming community events. If you’d like to schedule a presentation with your community, contact us by phone or email with “Safer Taylor” in the subject line. You can also sign up for project updates via SFMTA’s page here.
