Title: Small Business Manager
Full-Time: 40 hours / non-exempt
Compensation: $80,000.00 Annually
Reports to: Director of Community & Business Engagement


TLCBD’s Small Business Manager (SBM) engages a broad range of small neighborhood businesses in TLCBD programs through outreach, communication, marketing, and events. This organizing work builds upon TLCBD’s block group model in bringing stakeholders together and supporting them with consistent facilitation, information-sharing, and resources to achieve programmatic, physical, or policy improvements in the Tenderloin. The SBM collaborates with all TLCBD programs to share information back from the small business community and brings resources, opportunities, technical assistance, and direct advocacy strategies through continuous engagement.

This position will report to TLCBD’s Director of Community & Business Engagement and work closely with the Community Events Coordinator who implements community improvement projects and events, on a variety of projects from short-term campaigns, physical improvement strategies and projects, community events and long term, deep community building. This position is primarily in-office but will require going out to the community to work with small businesses on an as needed basis. This position will be compensated depending on the experience and skill set of the applicant.


Responsibilities

  • Collaborate and engage with small businesses to foster relationships and support their growth and development.
  • Oversee grant management processes and offer ongoing support to small businesses, ensuring successful application and utilization of funding resources.
  • Manage and maintain internal client databases, including Raiser’s Edge, Small Business Central, and GMS, ensuring data accuracy and efficient access.
  • Engage small business owners in organizing in a place-based way, utilizing the block group model, with a focus on commercial corridors and safe passage path – to share information and resources, develop relationships, and take unified action (both in stewardship and in policy).
  • Attend various meetings with small business owners, property owners and supporting CBOs, and with the Tenderloin Business Coalition. Must facilitate as needed.
  • Gather, document, and share information on community resources relevant to small business, bring new and/or under-utilized services to Tenderloin businesses (i.e., SBA, SF Small Business Alliance, EDC, business improvement and support services).
  • Work with the Director of Community & Business Engagement and Community Events Coordinator to prioritize and implement physical improvement strategies and projects based on community consultation.
  • Support Director of Community & Business Engagement to develop outreach plans for TLCBD programming across small businesses in the Tenderloin
  • Advance TLCBD’s framework and values through advocacy and relationships with businesses owners/property owners.
  • Develop stories, draft flyers, and distribute information in various forms, both digitally and in-person, as well as generating content.
  • Provide and/or manage translation services including written text, flyers and in-person interpretation to enhance equity and inclusion.
  • Support Director of Community & Business Engagement in collecting, analyzing, and reporting program data.
  • Support programmatic outreach, engagement, and events; including integration and adoption (and small business owner training and engagement) on TL Small Business Marketing Campaign, social media and cross-marketing; and hosting cameo events with influencers in the TL to draw attention to restaurants, retail, entertainment and events.
  • Various other duties as designated by Director of Community & Business Engagement.

Required Skills/Experience:

  • At least 1-3 years of experience providing outreach or engaging with small businesses in the Tenderloin or similar communities.
  • Ability to lead in diverse communities, high level cultural competency, and commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion and accessibility.
  • Ability to work professionally and respectfully with a broad group of stakeholders: residents, businesses, community members, property owners, volunteers, city officials and politicians, TLCBD Board members, and all TLCBD stakeholders.
  • Demonstrate organizational and communication skills with a high degree of maturity, confidence and compassion in communicating across diverse audiences.
  • Exceptional written and public speaking skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, Canva, Airtable, and Adobe, with the ability to quickly learn new tools and technologies.
  • Demonstrates compassionate and empathetic communication, effectively engaging and empowering others in a way that fosters leadership development through a “servant leadership” approach.
  • Should be comfortable using social media platforms as the role will occasionally require leveraging them to promote our mission and engage with the community.
  • Bilingual: Fluency in preferred languages Spanish, Arabic, Vietnamese, or Cantonese.
  • Intimate knowledge of the Tenderloin neighborhood, either as a resident or professional (highly preferred).

Title: Director of Community Organizing
Employment Status: 40 hours/Non-exempt

Compensation: $90,000.00 Annually
Reports to: TLCBD Deputy Director


The Director of Community Organizing oversees all aspects of Neighborhood Voice and Community Connection. This leadership role engages a broad range of City Departments, CBOs, and key Tenderloin stakeholders in TLCBD programs and services through outreach, communication, marketing, and events. This organizing work builds upon TLCBD’s block group model in bringing stakeholders together and supporting them with consistent facilitation, information-sharing, and resources to achieve programmatic, physical, or policy improvements in the Tenderloin. The Director of Community Organizing collaborates with all TLCBD programs and services to share information back from the TL community and brings resources, opportunities, and direct advocacy strategies through continuous engagement. Additionally, this position oversees the management and direction of the Policy & Voice Transitional Age Youth program, which weaves in community organizing experience and job opportunities with Tenderloin youth engagement and leadership. This position is primarily in-office but will require going out to the TL Community to work with City departments, TL CBOs, and TL Stakeholders.


Primary Responsibilities

Organization Leadership and Evaluation (10%)

  • Member of the leadership team of Directors that advances the core purpose of TLCBD.
  • Advance TLCBD’s framework and values through advocacy and relationships with City, CBO partners, and Stakeholders.
  • Ensure TLCBD is represented at meetings that lead to TL Constituent voice with policy-makers and communicate meeting summaries to TLCBD leadership.
  • Manage evaluation processes for relevant Community Organizing programs/projects.
  • Provide Policy & Voice leadership during vacancies or absences of other leadership staff.
  • Serve as Policy & Voice collaborative advisor with other Directors where relevant leadership is needed.
  • Staff the TLCBD Board of Director Policy & Voice Committee and work on projects that engage its members, particularly led by Block Representatives.
  • Contribute to the integration of Community Organizing throughout TLCBD to build community voice and connection.
  • Nurture relevant funder relationships and seek new opportunities to build new funding streams.
  • Support the Deputy Director in managing the Community Organizing program budget and grants.
  • Support the Deputy Director on the Community Organizing Program Budget.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Deputy Director.

Block Group Organizing (60%)

  • Advance the Tenderloin community’s connectedness, and voice, as well as equity outcomes in comparison with the rest of the City; Shape programs to support multi sector partnerships that increase the community health of the Tenderloin.
  • Oversee the Block Group program design, strategic partnerships, communications, organizing and administration, impact measurement, managing stability and growth, and securing funding sources.
  • Achieve a measurable increase in community participation and awareness.
  • Successfully implement leadership structures within Block Groups, leading to more organized and self-sufficient community units.
  • Disseminate critical information regarding local safety, resources, and policies affecting the TL residents.
  • Collect information from resident Block Groups and relay back to safety partners and the JFO team.
  • Systematically identify and support “lead partners” in each Block Group, establishing a stable community.
  • Document meetings, priorities, concerns, ideas, solutions, etc. and report on meeting outcomes, facilitation needs and progress on self-directed facilitation, and any planned actions or activities.
  • Supervise future Community Organizing staff and or interns to support Block Group Program growth.
  • Facilitate and host quarterly joint-sessions, creating a platform for collective community brainstorming and problem-solving, together with CBOs and key policy and service partners in safety, clean and activation.
  • Manage relevant grants and reporting.

Youth Voice (30%)

  • Supervise Youth Voice Manager to integrate youth leaders into Policy & Voice programming.
  • Support internship placements for Youth Voice program.
  • Connect Youth Conveinings and Networks with TLCBD’s programming.
  • Support with DCYF reporting requirements.
  • Support Youth Voice event.

Position Requirements

  • At least 5 years experience in program and organizational leadership, including management experience.
  • Demonstrated leadership at community level.
  • Experience with community organizing and development.
  • Ability to lead in diverse communities.
  • Ability to work professionally and respectfully with residents, volunteers, program participants, city officials, Board members, and all TLCBD stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated leadership, organizational and communication skills.
  • Exceptional computer, written, and public speaking skills.
  • Familiarity with TLCBD history, vision, and Framework preferred.
  • Fluency in Spanish, Cantonese, Vietnamese, or Arabic preferred.

Title: Administrative Specialist

We are looking for a proactive and organized Administrative Specialist to join TLCBD. This full-time role combines executive assistant duties, office support, and accounts payable responsibilities. As a non-profit organization, we seek someone enthusiastic and eager to learn, bringing new ideas to support our growth. The ideal candidate will be adaptable, detail-oriented, and skilled at managing multiple tasks efficiently. This role also involves assisting with projects and collaborating across departments to ensure timely and high-quality outcomes.


Key Responsibilities:

Executive Assistant Duties:

  • Provide administrative support to senior leadership, including scheduling meetings, managing calendars, reimbursements, and coordinating travel arrangements.
  • Assist in preparing reports, presentations, and other documents for meetings and strategic planning.
  • Handle confidential information with discretion and professionalism.
  • Serve as a liaison between executives and other team members, ensuring clear communication.
  • Assist with special projects given by Manager or Senior Leadership

Office Support:

  • Oversee daily office operations, including greeting employees and guest, maintaining supplies and managing office equipment.
  • Coordinate with vendors and service providers to ensure the smooth operation of office services.
  • Organize and manage office events and meetings as needed.
  • Attend Executive Committee and Board of Directors meetings and oversee minute
  • taking, setting up food and beverages, and cleanup at the meeting’s conclusion.
  • Post minutes and agendas of committee and Board of Directors meetings as required.

Accounts Payable:

  • Process and track invoices, ensuring timely payments and accurate record-keeping.
  • Reconcile monthly accounts payable statements and address any discrepancies.
  • Collaborate with the finance team to support budget tracking and expense reporting.
  • Maintain organized financial records for audits and compliance purposes.

Required Skills/Experience:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Bilingual: Fluency in Spanish
  • Proven experience in an administrative or executive assistant role, office support, or similar field.
  • Experience with accounts payable or basic bookkeeping is a plus.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills with the ability to prioritize tasks effectively.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) and familiarity with office management software.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
