GRAFFITI ABATEMENT TRANSFORMS TENDERLOIN STREETS
TLCBD teamed up with SF Public Works, Larkin Street Youth Services, and Mayor London Breed to tackle graffiti in the Tenderloin. Armed with paint and determination, 70 volunteers worked together to restore sections of Larkin, Hyde, Turk, and O’Farrell streets, covering up graffiti on everything from buildings to street lamps.
As the first project of its kind in the neighborhood, the results were immediately visible—an effort that speaks volumes about our shared commitment to a cleaner, more welcoming Tenderloin. (Be sure to check out the before-and-after photos in the SF Standard!) This collaboration highlights that when the community comes together, positive change follows.
We extend a heartfelt thank you to all the volunteers and partners who helped make this event possible!
TLCBD’s OCTOBER CONVENINGY
This month, we hosted our TLCBD Quarterly Convening, bringing together community members to share important updates on two new initiatives: Clean Operations Swing Shift and Safe Programs Street Operations. The new swing shift focuses on the safety and cleanliness of the Tenderloin’s Business Corridor and Safe Passage Route during the late afternoon and early evening hours, ensuring these key areas remain welcoming and secure throughout the day. Looking ahead, our next convening will take place on January 9, 2025, from 12 to 1:30 p.m. If you’d like more information or want to get involved, please don’t hesitate to contact us!
EMPOWERING TOMORROW’S LEADERS
TLCBD is excited to announce the launch of our DCYF-funded internship program on October 1, 2024. Our initial cohort has 11 transitional-aged youth (18-24 year-olds). The design of the program is to lay the foundation for TL youth to be TL’s leaders and decision-makers of today and of tomorrow. Our interns will learn about pathways to jobs, including those within TLCBD. They will be hands-on participants who will give their voices to decision-makers and organize opportunities for other youth to participate.
