NATIONAL NIGHT OUT 2024
On Tuesday, August 6th, Boedekker Park hosted National Night Out, a nationwide celebration that brings together millions of participants across thousands of communities to promote safety and community spirit. In the Tenderloin, this event was a standout feature of the “I Love Tenderloin” Day celebrations. Families enjoyed free books, food, raffles, games, and family-friendly activities, with a special backpack giveaway for up to 500 children. This gathering exemplified our commitment to creating safer, more connected neighborhoods by bringing together young people, families, and public safety officials for an evening of community-centered activities.
A special thanks to the Office of Economic and Workforce Development and the San Francisco Police Department for supporting the event, and participation from our friends over at the Community Police Advisory Board (CPAB), USDOJ, Mayor London Breed, and a range of community partners, including the YMCA, United Way Bay Area, St. Anthony’s Foundation, SF Rec and Park, and the Salvation Army Kroc Center.
INSPIRING ENVIRONMENTAL AWARENESS
Last month our very own Paris McBride took time to speak with children, teenage TAs, and educators about the importance of recycling at the Tenderloin Clubhouse of the Boys and Girls Club. Paris detailed how recycling repurposes trash into reusable materials and encouraged everyone to be mindful of their waste. Through interactive questions and a detailed explanation of the recycling process, Paris inspired the group (and us!) to take an active role in environmental stewardship, leaving them with a stronger commitment to caring for their neighborhood.
MUNI UPDATES IN THE TENDERLOIN
Starting Saturday, August 17, as part of the Safer Taylor Street Project, Muni will introduce changes to several routes aimed at improving reliability, addressing crowding, and responding to rider feedback. One key change is on the 31 Balboa route, which now includes a new stop downtown. After the Eddy St & Jones St stop, the bus will make its next stop midway on Eddy between Taylor and Mason Streets, streamlining service by consolidating nearby stops for better reliability. These updates are designed to relieve crowding, especially as the school year begins, by ensuring buses can accommodate all waiting riders, particularly during busy morning commutes!
