The City has just opened up a grant you can use to make your business accessible and to pay for Certified Access Specialist Report (CASp report) for your place of business.
if you assumed the obligation of meeting Americans With Disability Act (ADA) requirements in your lease, you are legally responsible for complying with Americans With Disabilities Act (ADA) regulations. This grant will help you offset these costs.
A Certified Access Specialist (CASp) is a professional who has passed an examination and has been certified by the State of California to have specialized knowledge of state and federal construction-related accessibility standards.
He or she can inspect a business site for compliance issues, provide an inspection report, and issue Disability Access Inspection Certificate saying you “Meet Applicable Standards” (No corrections) OR “Inspected by a CASp” (corrections need to be made). Also, a CASp inspection provides legal benefits that may reduce a your financial liability in a lawsuit filed in State court.
Average cost for a small business CASp inspection is $2,000 to $3,000. This grant will fund the CASp report plus corrections you need to make to meet Accessible Standards.
If you already know what corrections you need to make, you can apply to fund these improvements by submitting a quote as part of your application. The grant will not cover labor costs.
