TLCBD is excited to announce that we will be adopting a new hourly model for our Corner Captains supporting Safe Passage. Starting March 1, Corner Captains will receive a part-time, hourly wage, instead of stipend reimbursement.
Safe Passage has been an important fixture in the Tenderloin community since 2008, helping thousands of children travel to and from school and around the neighborhood safely. Corner Captains are the backbone of TLCBD Safe Passage program, and converting to an hourly, part-time model offers increased compensation for our Corner Captains who are out on the streets ensuring safety for Tenderloin residents and families every day.
Corner Captains serve as a visible safety presence at designated priority intersections in the Tenderloin, as well as along a safe corridor during morning and/or afternoon school commute hours – approximately 8:00-10:00 a.m. and 2:00-4:00 p.m. Corner Captains monitor the safety environment and practice positive engagement with all people, assist with safe street crossings, and in general promote safe behavior.
