Saturday, July 17, marked the official opening of Safe Passage Park (SPark), a new outdoor community space located on the 200 block of Turk St. SPark is the newest addition to the Tenderloin Park Network, offering space for outdoor play, socializing and movement, arts and health classes.
The space is now open every day, from 7:00am-7:00pm. Residents can expect to see activities happening at SPark almost every day, like Streets Team Enterprises’ mobile game cart on Mondays and Thursdays from 10am-2pm.
SPark was made possible by the collaboration of residents, community organizations, and City partners, all of whom believed in the potential of a new kind of public space. We’re excited about the promise this space holds to bring joy and fun to Tenderloin residents, through classes, games, and simply a safe space to relax and connect with one another.
We’re also greatly appreciative of our donors who helped fund the development and implementation of the space. The San Francisco Office of Economic Workforce and Development provided major funding for this project and Envelope A+D provided significant support. The Salvation Army Kroc Center and Chinatown CDC contributed to the project as well. Donations to the space came from BioBag, Broadmoor Landscape Supply, DEKA Fabrication, KA Lau Construction, Pacific Nurseries, Sloat Garden Center, and Smart Building. Your support has allowed us to create a safe and inviting space for residents—including thousands of neighborhood youth—to play, interact, and just be.
