On Wednesdays in the Tenderloin, food boxes and prepared meals are distributed to families in need from the La Voz Latina office, through the collaborative efforts of neighborhood-serving organizations, including TLCBD, Latino Task Force, La Cocina, Farming Hope, Tenderloin Housing Clinic, and TNDC.
La Voz’s food box program serves 65 families with food boxes from the Mission Food Hub (part of the Latino Task Force) and prepared meals from La Cocina and Farming Hope.
Each organization involved plays a different part in getting the food to families. The Mission Food Hub supplies the boxes, La Cocina and Farming Hope provide prepared meals through a city grant that is administered by TNDC. Then TLCBD Safe Passage and THC tenant leaders help with unpacking the truck and distribution.
As Christy Shirilla of La Voz Latina describes it, “this is truly a whole neighborhood effort!”
