The latest pedestrian safety news in the Tenderloin includes three recent improvements. First, the SFMTA plans to move forward with two Quick-Build Projects —one at Leavenworth (McAllister to Post) and Golden Gate (Polk to Market). The second is added physical distancing signage along the walking areas that’ve been installed on Jones (O’Farrell to Golden Gate) and Turk (Market to Larkin) to encourage 6 feet of separation. Third, the SFMTA installed Painted Safety Areas at the intersections of Turk/Jones, Turk/Leavenworth, and Turk/Hyde.
Quick-Builds
Quick-Builds are designed to quickly implement pedestrian and bicycle safety improvements that will decrease the number of people fatally and severely injured. To improve comfort and safety for people walking and biking in the Tenderloin the SFMTA is moving forward with outreach, designs, and implementation of two Quick-Build Projects -one at Leavenworth (McAllister to Post) and Golden Gate (Polk to Market). Both streets are on the City’s High Injury Network, the 13% of city streets that account for 75% of severe and fatal collisions.
TLCBD Safety Captains will be helping in this effort by assisting with outreach, design plans, and providing assistance with crossings.
