The City of San Francisco has a new grant program where Tenderloin storefront businesses and non-profits could receive up to $5,000 to cover costs of reopening. This can include costs for outdoor dining equipment (such as barriers or furniture) and costs for fixtures or interior improvements to help with social distancing (such as acryllic barriers at checkout).
To be eligible, businesses must:
Operate from a storefront location in San Francisco that is open to the public.
Be licensed to operate in San Francisco.
Have less than $2.5 million in annual gross receipts.
Have permission from your property owner.
Have general liability and workers compensation insurance. The City recommends coverage of at least $1 million per occurrence.
Here is the link to the application.
Applications are accepted on a rolling basis until all funds are exhausted. There is funding for 344 awards. While the primary goal of the program is to help businesses pay for equipment and fixtures to help with compliance with COVID-19 health and safety guidance, it is possible to use the grant for other physical storefront improvements. If you are interested in using the grant for something else, you can choose the “other” option on the application and write in how you propose spending the funds.
