As part of the growth of the Tenderloin Community Benefit District (TLCBD) Economic Opportunity Program, the TLCBD has acquired the Tenderloin Equitable Development Project (TEDP), a community business outreach non-profit that has served the neighborhood for more than twenty years. The combined organizations position TLCBD to more effectively support small businesses and the Tenderloin neighborhood. In June 2020, the two organizations partnered to support the neighborhood, providing approximately $140,000 in mini-grant funding to 68 Tenderloin small businesses impacted by COVID-19.
This acquisition was encouraged by the San Francisco Office of Economic and Workforce Development and UC Hastings College of the Law. The San Francisco offices of the law firm Nixon Peabody generously served as pro bono legal advisor to both TLCBD and TEDP.
This acquisition creates a single, sustainable organization in support of small businesses in the Tenderloin for the next 15 years — working towards growth, neighborhood improvement, and a healthy business environment. Businesses will also benefit from TLCBD’s other essential neighborhood programs, including Clean, Safe, Neighborhood Pride, and Inviting Space.
Moving Forward, Together
The TLCBD and TEDP share a common overarching love of and belief in the Tenderloin neighborhood, with both organizations working to achieve an inclusive and sustainable impact for the benefit of that community. In 2020, TLCBD’s vision is to expand its Economic Opportunity mandate, ensuring the alignment of this work with its core organizational values, Connection, Respect, Responsibility and Courage — the foundation of its day-to-day operations and programs.
