During the Board of Supervisors meeting on Tuesday, July 30th, Supervisor Matt Haney introduced draft legislation to enact a City Task Force in response to the issue of open drug markets in the Tenderloin, Mid Market, SoMa, and Civic Center neighborhoods. TLCBD has supported the call for a Task Force since introducing the Tenderloin Thrives initiative earlier this year.
You can read more about the Tenderloin Thrives initiative here, including many of our recommendations for a task force, which have been adopted into the draft legislation.
The Task Force legislation comes as a follow up to the hearing called by Supervisor Haney on April 25, 2019. You can watch video of the hearing (jump ahead to 2:40:10), and read the statement/presentation by TLCBD Safe Programs Director Kate Robinson here.
TLCBD will continue to work on this issue in collaboration with community members, stakeholders, and city agencies to deepen our understanding while working to end systemic forces that perpetuate community harm in the Tenderloin.
