On June 25th, more than twenty stakeholders from the 300-block of Ellis Street participated in an day of service with the goal of identifying and implementing physical improvement projects that inspire neighborhood pride and connectedness. For 6 hours, this group of residents, organization staff, and City partners worked together with the architecture firm HOK to think creatively about some of the challenges and positives on the block. The day resulted in many immediate ideas, as well as long-term steps for the group to focus on over the next year.
This work is part of TLCBD’s model for Block Safety Groups to bring creative and fun solutions, as well a City funding, to improve the issues they identify on their blocks. We are taking the traditional safety model of physical improvement “Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design (CPTED)” and reframing it as “Community Pride Through Environmental Design”.
