This year, the Civic Center Commons has an ice skating rink! Plus a whole bunch of other holiday events, including the tree lighting event on December 5. The tree lighting ceremony will also include the SFPD’s toy giveaway for the first 400 kids. Here’s the list of upcoming events.
Civic Center Plaza Holiday Tree Lighting, December 5, 5pm-7pm, snow flurries, festive foods and drinks, a toy giveaway from the SFPD for 400 kids, and a wonderful lineup of holiday programming led by Artistic Director Nick A. Olivero — there are an assortment of other wonderful cheerful activities happening in, and adjacent to, Civic Center Commons this holiday season.
War Memorial Arts Market: November 30 and December 7, 11am-5pm
Shop one-of-a-kind arts and crafts, and buy directly from the artists who make them, at these two upcoming pop-up markets in the War Memorial Building.
Family Weekends in Civic Center: December 1-2, 8-9, 15-16, 22-23, 10am-4pm
Bring the kids to Civic Center this holiday season! Festive and free kids games and activities, including face-painting and Santa visits, in Civic Center Plaza will happen adjacent to the new playgrounds, the Winter Park Ice Rink and Bi-Rite Café.
Holiday Fanfare: Throughout December
Hear festive songs from San Francisco Conservatory of Music and SFGC Chorus students this holiday season along Civic Center sidewalks. Happening adjacent to many of the arts buildings in the Civic Center Community Benefit District, the CCCBD has lined up some wonderful live music for those moving through Civic Center during December; schedule here.
City Hall Pop Up Holiday Shop in City Hall North Light Court : December 4, 11am-6pm
Avoid buying someone something she already has and shop unique and thoughtful gifts from over 50 local makers and manufacturers in City Hall. While you shop, enjoy live music, sweets and a raffle; this wonderful pop-up is hosted by the San Francisco Office of Economic and Work Development.
Children’s Toy & Book Festival in City Hall: December 5, 9am-11am
Mayor London Breed, San Francisco Department of Child Support Services, San Francisco Fire Fighters’ Union Local 798 and San Francisco Public Library will welcome kids 12 and under along with their parents to this toy and book giveaway event with Santa.
XFINITY FREE SKATE NIGHT: Friday, December 7 | 6-7:30 p.m. & 8-9:30 p.m.
Glide into Xfinity Free Skate Night on Friday 12/7 at 6 & 8 PM. Xfinity is covering your session plus ice skate rental while you enjoy free games at the kids zone, a photo booth, giveaways & raffles. First come, first serve. Limited to the first 400 people per session. No rainchecks.
Mayor’s Office of Neighborhood Services’ Kwanzaa Event: December 26
Check out the “Celebration of Family, Community and Culture,” which honors African heritage in African-American culture. More info to come, all are welcome.
Also happening throughout the holiday season are don’t-miss-events such as Off the Grid Food Truck Friday Markets (11am-2pm) and the City Hall Noontime Concert Series in City Hall Rotunda (multiple December dates, noon-1pm).
