TLCBD board of directors and staff would like to thank all the community members who came out for Tenderloin Talk LIVE #4.
The Tenderloin Museum, currently showcasing the still poignant work of the Tenderloin Times as well as the vibrant photography of neighborhood resident Darwin Bell, was the perfect setting to discuss the many important developments and future opportunities underway at the TLCBD. Among those developments was an informal chance to meet and talk with our incoming executive director, Simon Bertrang. Simon’s official start will not be until the end of May but he’s already been spending a lot of time with us in the neighborhood, including several volunteer shifts with Safe Passage.
Other event highlights included information about our upcoming board elections (apply today!), the funding/program updates for Invest Tenderloin, and the TLCBD plans to kickoff the early organization renewal process this summer. As for the funding updates, the Invest Tenderloin campaign is an 18-month fundraising campaign meant to deepen existing TLCBD programs to have a much greater impact on the community and quality of lives in the Tenderloin. To date, we’ve raised $342k of our intended $1Million goal announced at Tenderloin Talk LIVE #3 in January 2018.
As part of Invest Tenderloin, we are working to deepen our cleaning program impact by transitioning from a route-based approach to a micro-neighborhood approach. At Tenderloin Talk LIVE we were excited to preview the launch of our first micro-neighborhood launch in June 2018. We’ll share more on that in an upcoming Tenderloin Talk newsletter.
As part of the micro-neighborhood cleaning program, we’re creating at least six, smaller geographic areas within the District boundaries to be serviced by a Clean Team member on a daily basis. This will provide the potential to triple the number of times a Clean Team member passes the sidewalk in front of your home/business/building. While allowing us to provide a much more engaged and focused service, we hope to foster connection and pride among neighbors. We are incredibly grateful to our funding partners from Saint Francis Foundation/TLHIP and SF Office of Economic and Workforce Development as well as to the Department of Children Youth and their Families (DCYF) for their contribution. Wee are not done yet! These investments help deepen the impact of our neighborhood-serving programs and ultimately work to change lives in the Tenderloin.
