TLCBD recently hosted the third installment of the quarterly event series, Tenderloin Talk Live. The event was held on a rainy Wednesday at De Marillac Academy. Many community members, including residents, workers and business owners joined us in continuing the quality of life conversation.
The Tenderloin Talk Live event series is presented to strengthen our community connection, encourage dialogue on neighborhood issues, and influence the TLCBD’s neighborhood serving programs.
At the first event—June 2017 at 201 Turk—we reintroduced the TLCBD staff, projects, and programs and paused throughout to engage in conversation and to hear from the community what was most important to them.
During the second event—September 2017 at The Hamilton—we actively engaged the community in the issues affecting the neighborhood. Five staff members facilitated working groups comprised of approximately ten audience members each.
We asked participants to:
- Imagine improved quality of life in the Tenderloin one year from now
- Answer what had happened to make it so
- Imagine their role in the change
- Envision the role of the TLCBD in that process
Check out the report back from the September event here.
At our last event—January 2018 at De Marillac Academy—we shared how those events, and numerous engagements with community and other reflections have shaped our plan of work over the next two years.
Invest Tenderloin, It’s About People.
Invest Tenderloin will raise approximately $1M over two years, and lays out an as-received, priority-based increase in funding to TLCBD programs directly affecting the quality of lives in the Tenderloin. Some of those programs are underway while others will be phased in as mentioned above.
At our last event, we heard directly from Angela, our Safe Passage program coordinator, and Stephon, A Downtown Streets Team (DST) graduate and full time employee of our Clean Team. Their stories illustrate how financial resource supports a program, which in turn influences lives.
Angela and Stephon are our Tenderloin neighborhood heroes for January 2018. Read more about their stories here.
Thank you to all the community members who have helped shape our vision for a healthier Tendelroin, including all those who attended our most recent Tenderloin Talk Live, we are in this together.
Stay tuned for the next Tenderloin Talk Live in April, we hope to see you there.
