Outbreaks of hepatitis A, which can be spread through contact with infected feces or food and other ways, have been affecting communities in San Diego and other southern California cities in 2017. Last week, Governor Brown declared a state of emergency to allow the state to increase its supply of hepatitis A vaccines, according to Mercury News.
TLCBD Clean Team is getting proactive in prevention. We’ve recently begun using BrutTab cleaning solution to power wash our sidewalks. BruTab, a bleach alternative disinfectant, is proven to be effective in preventing hepatitis A, which is largely affecting vulnerable communities including those experience homelessness and intravenous drug users. In September, Clean Team disposed of more than 2300 syringes and sanitized for 193 instances of human/animal waste. Taking this proactive preventative measure is not only for the protection of our community but also for our dedicated staff.
Note, in being proactive to prevent potential hepatitis A outbreaks, St. Anthony’s will be vaccinations.
In the month of September, Clean Team responded to 107 hotline calls. See something posing a health or safety risk on our sidewalks? Call the Clean Team at 415-385-5490.
