American Theatre, an theater communications publication, covers PianoFight’s ShortLived, an annual audience-judged 10-minute play contest series. Over several weeks short plays were staged and then judged by audience members. Now the finalists will make a run through August 5th with $5000 on the line. PianoFight (144 Taylor Street) calls the annual contest the “the nation’s largest audience-judged theatre competition…in the world!” Buy your tickets for the final days, they will sell out.
Just around the corner, Broadway World reports the venerable Exit Theatre will be kicking off the 26th Annual Fringe Festival this September. This year’s San Francisco Fringe Festival runs September 8 through 23, 2017 with performances all days except Mondays at San Francisco’s EXIT Theatreplex located at 156 Eddy Street. For complete listings of shows and curtain times, patrons can visit sffringe.org or call the Fringe Hotline at (415) 673-3847.
Looking ahead, Cutting Ball Theater will kick off their 19th season in the neighborhood this September. American Theatre reports the first of three productions will be The Mineola Twins by Paula Vogel (Sept. 28-Oct. 29). The Mineola Twins tells the story of the women’s movement and the rise of conservatism as seen through the lives of identical twins. Cutting Ball associate director Ariel Craft will direct. Things are sure to be a bit cooler this season at Cutting Ball as they’ll have completed the long-sought-after HVAC system, not to mention an on site beer and wine license is in the works.
