An anonymous bidder has agreed to pay a record $4,567,888 at an annual charity auction to have a private lunch with Warren Buffett, the billionaire chairman of Berkshire Hathaway Inc.. Now a legacy business, Tenderloin nonprofit GLIDE plots new community initiatives [Hoodline]

Last month, Tenderloin nonprofit GLIDE, which was originally founded in 1929, became one of the newest members of the city's Legacy Business Registry. Nominated by District 6 Supervisor Matt Haney, who represents the Tenderloin, GLIDE has now officially joined the ranks of the "longstanding, community-serving businesses" that have established themselves in San Francisco neighborhoods for at least three decades. Read more via Hoodline.

GLIDE at odds with Methodist church, calls for unity with SF

GLIDE recently announced news that the United Methodist Church would be pulling their pastors starting July 1, with no clear plans to replace them. As reported by the San Francisco Chronicle, GLIDE's "emphasis on social services and not enough on church" is at the root of the problem and leads to a deeper concern about a "possible a split with the national United Methodist Church altogether." On Thursday, June 21, GLIDE's leadership, friend, and supporters held a Unity Rally at City Hall.
