Photos: La Cocina’s Municipal Marketplace Bread Breaking Ceremony
Today was the ‘bread breaking’ ceremony for La Cocina’s Municipal Marketplace, marking the beginning of construction of the country's first all-women-led food hall. The marketplace is expected to open in Spring 2019 at 101 Hyde Street in Tenderloin, where the post office once stood.
La Cocina invited community organizations, La Cocina chefs, civic leaders, and supporters to the first of many shared meals to take place in the space. And instead of a traditional ribbon-cutting ceremony, La Cocina did a “breaking of bread” ceremony with Mayor London Breed and Supervisor Jane Kim.
Special guests included Mayor London Breed, Caleb Zigas (La Cocina), Joaquin Torres (SF OEWD), Guadalupe Moreno of Mi Morena, and representatives from Central City SRO Collaborative, and La Voz Latina.
