GHOM Brings Art/Activation To Golden Gate Ave
Congratulations to our new Tenderloin neighbors at Get High On Mountains, an artist and creative space offering affordable studios, clothing boutiques, galleries and more at 276 Golden Gate Avenue (at Hyde) next to Morty’s. Katie Gong and Brett Walker run GHOM. Walker is an artist and photographer as well as the owner and operator of bohemian-flavored George & Lennie Cafe just across the street at 277 Golden Gate Ave. Katie Gong, Walker’s partner of eight years, is a third generation wood worker, whose sculptures, furniture, and other immaculate designs have won awards, been featured in various media outlets, bars, café’s and homes. GHOM offers studio space for Gong and a portrait studio for Walker.
But that’s not all. After a major renovation, the pair built out ten custom studios for other artists and makers, offering affordable space for yet more additions to the Tenderloin’s thriving arts community.
Over several months, they worked, with the help of other artists and friends to dramatically transform the space, which had been used as an office building with basement cubicles now turned into studios.
A vintage boutique, The Cabin, is located just as you enter and works to not only offer goods made within, but is quickly proving to be a positive, active use of the space. Stop by during the weekday lunch hours, you'll never know what you'll find. A new hat, or an impromptu drumming by Leroy.
During an opening celebration last month, a crowd of well over 100 friends and partners shared their appreciation, many donating their time and energy in the form of performance, bartending and overall pitching in.
Congratulations on the move, and much appreciation for your commitment to making the neighborhood a more vibrant, and playful space for all. We look forward to sharing the wonderful work.
Visit their website to sign up for their newsletter, submit work for upcoming shows, and connect on social media to see some of the incredible work being made in the space. From artisanal soaps to custom hats, there’s something for everybody.
Visit any weekday afternoon between 12-2pm or stop by GHOM during the Lower Polk/Tenderloin Art Walk, every first Thursday.
